Frog と Toad は仲良しです。春が来て外に出ようと Toad を誘いに来た Frog ですが Toad はまだ寝ていたいと言って起きてくれません。そこで、Frog が思いついたアイデアとは。
この「SPRING」をはじめ、「THE STORY」、「A LOST BUTTON」、「A SWIM」、「THE LETTER」の 5 話が収まっています。今読んでみると、”meadow” なんて単語もあって多分以前はわからずに読んでたんだろうと思いました。それに “think of a story” が何回も繰り返されてたりして、こうやって言い回しを覚えるんだなと思いました。
Frog and Toad シリーズは日本の小学校の国語の教科書にも載ってるそうですね。Toad がボケで、Frog がツッコミのような感じでいい味を出していますね。Frog and Toad をはじめ Arnold Lobel の本は文も絵も Lobel が書いてます。私は、ほかの Lobel の本も好きです。

ところで、別の記事で書いた SEG でやったタドキスト大会の第１回で「Writing コンテスト」をやりました。テーマは 「Love or Money?」（たぶん、Oxford Bookworms からの引用だと思います）で100語以内で書くとうことで参加して賞をもらったのを思い出しました。実は、ネタに Frog and Toad を使ったのです。自己満足ですがここに掲載します。2003 年 11 月に書いたものですので、文法的な間違いはご容赦を。
「Toad get in trouble」 One day, Toad got a air ticket to New York by a lotterly. Then he went to New York, and went to Starbucks. He had tasted his first Seattle coffee. But he don't have money. Then he could not pay for his coffee. Now Toad is a prisoner. And he wrote letter to Frog for help. A week later he got a letter from Frog. And the letter said, "Sorry, I can not send money. I don't have any money. Because we don't need money in our world. I miss you. Love. Frog" Toad sighed, and said to himself, "I know he LOVE me. But I need MONEY now."

私も同じお題で書いてみました。使用した100単語は、アルクのSVLならLevel 1～2の語彙で、BNCなら3000 word familiesの範囲内です。 Money and love have O and E in them, but they are quite different. If you pay money for anything you want, you will run out of it. If you give money to anyone you meet, you will lose all your money. You should save money for a rainy day, but you can give love whether the sun shines or not. When you give love to others, happiness shines on their faces. The more you give love, the more you will receive it. Love of money is common to all. Still, love of truth is greater than that of money.
人生四日さん、コメントありがとうございます。 It is a good point that both words has “O” and “E”. Money have a limit and love have no limit as you say. But I may choose money if I have no money I think. May be having some money and some love is the best way to live peacefully. また、たまに寄ってください。
